The American Gold Buffalo has been offered by the United States Mint since 2006. It was the Mint’s first 24 karat, .9999 fine gold coin for the public, and each 1 oz coin holds one troy ounce of gold. The design is based on James Earle Fraser’s Indian Head (Buffalo) nickel of 1913: a right-facing Native American profile on one side and an American bison on the other. Legal tender in the United States with a face value of $50. Year varies by availability.
